Dell's no stranger to the tablet world, having brought the Android-powered Streak 5 and Streak 7 slates to market, and now the company has said that we can expect a new tablet device from it later this year. Speaking to Reuters, Dell Chief Commercial Officer Steve Felice said that the firm will be releasing a new consumer tablet in late 2012. Felice wouldn't offer up many details about the device, even opting not to mention which operating system the slab would be running, but he did reveal that both Android and Windows 8 are possibilities.
The last two Dell tablets weren't exactly runaway successes, but Felice promises that the company has been "taking its time" crafting this new device, saying that Dell is spending more time working on the overall ecosystem of it. It'll be interesting to see whether or not this extra time and work will pay off for Dell when the mystery slate arrives. That's likely a bit of a ways off from now considering that we just made the jump into 2012, but hey, maybe we'll be treated to an early preview of the device thanks to some leaks. More on the Dell tablet as we get it.
