One of the major perks to owning a Nexus phone is that those devices are the first in line to get updates whenever a new version of Android is released. For example, the Nexus One was the first to get a taste of Android 2.2 and was the second to receive 2.3 (the Nexus S was first, but only because it launched with that OS). It looks like Gingerbread will be the Nexus One's final dessert, though, as Google's own Hugo Barra has told The Telegraph that the N1 won't be receiving an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich because the phone is just "too old." Barra also reaffirmed that the Nexus S will see ICS and that the update should hit the device "within weeks."
This news is definitely a bummer for Nexus One owners everywhere, especially because there are likely a good number of folks out there still rocking the granddaddy of the Nexus family. That said, the decision not to officially bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the N1 doesn't come as a huge shock considering the phone's age. The good news is that Android is know for its strong community and, because of the fact that the N1 is a developer phone and is probably still in use by quite a few people, I'm sure that we can expect an unofficial ICS port for the device sooner or later.
