Remember the BlackBerry 9980, also known as BlackBerry Knight? This mystery 'Berry popped up in a handful of leaked photos and hands-on videos at the beginning of September and was described as a Bold 9900 in a Porsche-designed body. At time time there was a lot of back and forth about whether or not the Knight was the real deal, but now it appears that the handset is indeed legit and will soon be making its official debut at 1,350 feet above ground. BlackBerry and Porsche Design have sent out invitations to an event taking place on October 27th at a restaurant in the Burj Khalifa in Dubai named At.Mosphere, which just so happens to hold the Guinness World Record for "Highest Restaurant From Ground Level." The two companies will use the shindig to show off "an exclusive collaboration between Porsche Design and BlackBerry."
Considering the venue that this event is being held in and the fact that Porsche Design is selling a mechanical pencil for around $269, it's probably safe to assume that we won't be seeing the BlackBerry Knight hit U.S. carrier shelves. Of course, if "smart elegant or National Dress" describes something you might wear on a random Thursday, then it's likely that getting a carrier subsidy on a smartphone isn't something that you're concerned with. Now that the BlackBerry 9980/Knight is all but official, would any of you consider snapping one up if you had the chance?
