After sixteen months, it has finally happened. An Android device has pushed the iconic iPhone 4 off of its first place pedestal on PhoneDog's Top Smartphones List for AT&T. It may return to the top spot in a few days when the iPhone 4S launches, but for now, the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best smartphone you can get on the nation's second largest wireless carrier.
Shown off at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Galaxy S II is available on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, and like the global version, is a feature-packed Android device that offers a lot of goodies that should appeal to a lot of people. The 1.2 GHz dual-core processor is incredibly fast, the camera is great, and perhaps most importantly, Samsung has optimized their TouchWiz UI to a point where it can compete with industry leaders like HTC's Sense and Motorola's custom UI.
For the Android enthusiast, the Galaxy S II line offers high-end specifications that consistently beat everyone in speed tests. For the first-time smartphone user, the Galaxy S II offers an easy transition from the old dumbphone.
