Ever since AT&T labeled its HSPA+ network as a 4G network and announced devices like the upcoming HTC Inspire 4G, we've been wondering whether or not users will have to pay extra for a data plan for these 4G devices. A new leak has seemingly confirmed that ATT customers will be able to use the existing $15/$25 data plans with the carrier's 4G devices. There is, however, one catch: anyone that's still got a death grip on their unlimited data plan will have to drop it for one of the tiered options in order to use a 4G phone. The new 4G data plans will sport different feature codes, which could be used to enable the HSPA+ data speeds.
This news is pretty disappointing for those of us that have managed to hold onto the retired unlimited data option, but it's not entirely surprising, either. After all, I'm sure that ATT wouldn't mind moving as many customers to its tiered options as possible, especially as they bolster their lineup with more data-hungry Androids. UPDATE: AT&T has come forward on the situation and explained that anyone that's holding on to an unlimited data plan will, in fact, be able to upgrade to a 4G device and keep the unlimited data. Hooray!
