We've heard that both Sprint and AT&T are mulling over the possibility of adding a single data plan that can be shared among several devices, and now it seems that Verizon is considering doing the same thing. In a recent interview, Verizon Wireless CEO Daniel Mead confirmed that his carrier may add a "family plan" for data at some point in the future, allowing several users to share one data plan. The plan would be similar to how VZW currently offers family text packages. Mead also said that his carrier was happy with the adoption numbers of Verizon's holiday $15/150MB data plan, and while it's possible that they'll switch to tiered data entirely, VZW will stick with its $30 unlimited package for now.
A sort of "family data plan" seems like it would be a great move not only for Verizon, but for many customers, as well. With it, users that normally may not have switched to a smartphone due to the unlimited data plan could actually make the move because they'll be able to share the data with one or more people on their family plan. This could lead to more smartphone and data plan sales for Verizon, which means more revenue for Verizon, too. Heck, I'm actually surprised we haven't seen family data offered already. Would any of you be tempted to switch to a family data plan if your carrier implemented one?
