Windows Mobile is the newest technology in cell phones. There are many great phones out on the market that have the windows mobile OS. There are two main divisions in Windows Mobile, one of them is Smartphone and the other is Pocket PC. The main difference is that Smartphones are smaller and mainly have phone functions as it's primary feature and Windows as a secondary function. Pocket PC's are mostly bigger in size and have a touch-screen which is meant to be used by a stylus. Usually Pocket PC's are faster and have more capabilities then Smartphones.
Windows Mobile operating system is not only used for phones. Windows mobile is also used for PMC (Portable Media Center) and other PDA's which do not necessarily have phone functionality built in.
There are currently two versions of Windows Mobile: Windows mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5. Windows Mobile 2003 has 3 variations. The first one is Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC which was made for all PDA devices that do not have phone functionality built in. The second version is Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition which was made specifically for Pocket PC's with built in phone features. The third one is Windows Mobile Smartphone edition.
Windows Mobile 5 was released in 2005 and was code named ?magneto? prior to release. The Windows Mobile 5 still has 3 variations like in the past. Windows Mobile 5 is not as buggy and has less problems in the OS. The overall OS has a lot more features than the older version, some of these new features include:
A new version of Windows Mobile is in the making and is probably going to be released in 2007. The code name for the new version of windows mobile is ?crossbow?. A new version is released every 2 years and since Windows mobile phones are getting more and more advanced there's no telling what the new OS will have.
