As if the whole prototype Apple iPhone story couldn't drag on any longer, Judge Clifford Cretan issued a ruling today that unsealed the contents of the search warrant that was executed on Jason Chen.
Here are a few highlights from the warrant:
- Apple reported the missing device.
- Brian Hogan, the individual that turned the iPhone over to Gizmodo (and collected money for it) is identified as a suspect in the warrant.
- Steve Jobs actually called Brian Lam to request the prototype unit, however Lam (as we learned when the news initially hit the website) requested a letter confirming that the phone belonged to Apple prior to giving it back.
- Jason Chen is under investigation for possible receipt of stolen property, theft, copying of a trade secret, and destruction of property.
- Brian Hogan was identified by his roommate since he plugged the unit into her computer. Needless to say, she was concerned that they would trace her IP and didn't want to get in trouble.
- Hogan claims that Gizmodo paid $8,500 for the iPhone prototype, plus a bonus when the story broke on their website.
- Hogan's other roommate, Thomas Warner, hid relevant items like a computer, thumb drive, and Apple ID stickers in a church, bushes, and outside of a convenient store. When police approached Hogan, he revealed the location of said items.
- Charges are expected to follow.
