Thanks to the investigative work of my friend Greg Kumparak at Mobile Crunch (and his tipsters), it looks like a GSM version of the highly anticipated Motorola Droid ("Sholes") has made it through the loving (but admittedly, somewhat judgmental) hands of the FCC. Unfortunately, the release mentions the GSM Sholes as packing GSM 850, 900,1800 and 1900 MHz, WCDMA 900 and 2100 MHz, and GPRS Class 12.
Yep, you're reading it right - European 3G bands. Despite the CDMA Droid being directly positioned for Verizon, it looks as if the GSM model went through the FCC as a mere formality for international travel. Still, a GSM edition of some sort is good, and means that it's one step closer to a model supporting US HSDPA bands. AT&T and T-Mobile, are you listening?
