I realize that I have a long-standing habit of reading far too much into things, but this advertisement just won't let me be. The announcement of the listed event was vaguely expected before hand, and once it was released many immediately suspected the gala to be a the official launch of the HTC Hero - myself included. This guy looks a bit like a hero character to me. And even though this image could have been arranged simply to satisfy the tastes of the photographer, I think the young man's accessories might hint at something beyond aesthetics and composition.
Perhaps it's silly for me to say this, but when you consider the two most hotly anticipated features of the HTC Hero - a new user interface called Rosie and the slight possibility of the implementation of Adobe's Flash - the elements of the photo take on a different tone. (Skip to the very end of the second video to see why I linked it.) A flower and sunglasses at night?
As if I'm not out far enough on a limb here, I'm going to wildly speculate that T-Mobile's Bright Lights campaign could possibly tie in with a bombastic promotion of the company's first mobile device to fully support Flash. As I said: I know I'm out on a limb, and I consistently read too much into things. But there you go.
I don't want to leave a post hanging with nothing but free association and irresponsible rumor creation, so here's the one bit of sturdy information I can provide about the event: I'll be there! HTC and PhoneDog are sending me to London for the soiree, and as you can imagine, I'm very happy to be going. I'll be without my video editing rig, but I'll post whatever I can get in terms of images, video, and words. I'll work on the rest when I get home.
I will be trying to squeeze in some sites, and maybe a tiny bit of that will be posted as well. I promise to fight the tingling temptation to slip in the occasional simple joke about a spot of tea, fish 'n' chips, or how my grill makes me blend right in. I probably I wont even attempt to make the Household Division of the Grenadier Guards chuckle (no promises).
I can make one guarantee: no waking up nude with amnesia in hospital for the first PD business trip. Though if I'm ever sent to Tokyo, that stuff should be penciled into the schedule. I'll do my best not to embarrass PhoneDog this time around, and that means being on my best behavior. Because everybody hates a tourist. Especially one who thinks it's all such a laugh.
