Lately we've seen Samsung update some of its older smartphones with features from its new flagships, and today Samsung says it's going to do the same thing with its smartwatches.
A new update will bring features of the new Galaxy Watch 3 to the Galaxy Watch Active 2 that launched last year. Running Analysis can give you metrics like asymmetry, regularity, stiffness, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time to help you get better performance and reduce injury on your runs.
Galaxy Watch Active 2 owners can also measure VO2 max with this update. This indicates the maximum amount of oxygen you can utilize during an intense workout and is a common way to determine an athlete's fitness and performance capacity.
Fall Detection is another new feature coming to the Galaxy Watch Active 2. When your watch detects that you've fallen, you'll be given the option to send an SOS notification to your contacts of your choosing.
There are several messaging-focused features in this update, too. They include the ability to view emoticons and photos on your Galaxy Watch Active 2, a Smart Reply feature that'll suggest a response so you can reply more quickly and easily, and the option to reply to messages with AR Emoji stickers and Bitmoji stickers straight from your watch.
Additionally, when you get a new message, your Galaxy Watch Active 2 will automatically show that chat's full history rather than just a single message.
Samsung touts that this update brings a "more seamless music experience across your devices", too, as well as a scroll capture feature that'll take a scrolling screenshot of your smartwatch so you can gather full message threads or workout info in a single image.
This new update is starting to roll out to the Galaxy Watch Active 2 today. It'll hit Bluetooth versions of the watch first and will then go to LTE versions shortly thereafter.
