With its glass front and back, the Galaxy S20 isn't exactly the toughest smartphone around. Samsung today announced a new version of the S20 that probably is one of the toughest phones.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition is a special version of the Android flagship meant for use by those in the military. While the specs of this Galaxy S20 TE are the same as the regular S20, meaning there's a 6.2-inch 3200x1440 AMOLED screen, triple rear camera setup, Snapdragon 865, and 12GB of RAM, the phone is inside a Juggernaut Case that looks like it could withstand just about anything you throw at it.
Samsung is also flashing a custom ROM on the Galaxy S20 TE with some special software features. Obviously security is a huge focus, and the phone includes Samsung's own Knox security platform as well as a DualDAR architecture that adds a second layer of encryption, even if the phone is powered off.
Also included is a special night vision mode that'll make it easy for the user to turn the screen on and off when using night vision eyewear and a stealth mode that'll disable LTE and mute all RF broadcasting. Users can also unlock the Galaxy S20 TE in landscape mode, and an auto-touch sensitivity will adjust the phone for use with gloved hands.
So yeah, this is a pretty serious piece of tech. Unsurprisingly, this isn't going to be a device that you'll be able to purchase just by waltzing into a carrier store or pointing your computer's browser at a website. Samsung says that the Galaxy S20 TE will be available in Q3 2020 through "select IT channel partners." There's no word on how much it'll cost, but we're betting it won't be cheap.
