The Samsung Galaxy A51 launched at the start of 2020, and since then, it's proven to be an extremely popular device.

A new report says that the Galaxy A51 was the world's best-selling Android phone in the first quarter of 2020. According to research firm Strategy Analytics, the Galaxy A51 shipped 6 million units globally in the first few months of 2020, giving it a market share of 2.3%.

Behind the Galaxy A51 was the Xiaomi Redmi 8 with a 1.9% market share in Q1 2020, the Galaxy S20+ with 1.7%, and both the Galaxy A10s and Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 with 1.6% each. The Galaxy A20s rounded things out with a 1.4% market share.

The Galaxy A51 is one of Samsung's more affordable phones, but it's still got a pretty respectable feature set for the price. The $399.99 Galaxy A51 has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with in-display fingerprint sensor, 4GB of RAM, and a 4000mAh battery. It's also packing a quad rear camera array that includes a 48MP main sensor, 12MP ultra wide camera, a 5MP macro camera for close-up shots, and a 5MP depth cam for portrait mode images.

Other factors also likely contributed to the popularity of the Galaxy A51 in the first quarter of the year. In that time we saw flagship smartphones continue to launch at prices of $1,000 or more, which could turn some folks off. The coronavirus pandemic may have also played a part, as some people looking to upgrade to a new phone may have been in the market for a cheaper device to help them save money.
