OnePlus is relatively new to the smartphone market compared to companies like Apple, Samsung, and LG, but a new report shows that OnePlus has become a major player in the smartphone market.
Analyst firm IDC says that OnePlus finished Q4 2018 as of the top 5 smartphone brands in the U.S. in the greater than $500 smartphone segment. This means that OnePlus shipped enough devices in the final few months of 2018 to break into the top 5 of companies selling $500+ smartphones in the U.S.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau commented that he's "proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about the future ahead.”
The OnePlus One was officially revealed in April 2014 as an affordable flagship with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 processor, and $299 price tag. The company has released several models since and made some big moves in recent years, including ditching the invite system that it used to have for buying its phones and partnering with T-Mobile on the launch of the OnePlus 6T in the U.S. OnePlus has become popular among Android fans, and the company's growth shows no signs of slowing.
