It's a good value for me

Posted on: February 14th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: Network Service is good in my area, and it's very affordable. The bad: Phones do seem to be low quality, and are overpriced. Many phones will not charge their batteries while in use, nor can they be powered by the adapter!!! No rewards for being a loyal customer. They only like new ones.Summary: The service in my area is WAY better than Cingular (Not surprising, I know. Cingular stinks!). Dropped calls are virtually non-exsistant. Phones are kind of junky, and many cannot be powered, nor will they recharge while a call is progress. The battery life on the cheaper phones is truly pathetic, and the phone will actually die, and power off while the charger is connected! I can't stress this enough, the charger will not power the phone, or charge the battery while it is in use (in a call), you have to hang up for the charging to resume! Plugging in the charger to keep talking does not work! If the phone is charging, and you answer a call, the charging will be suspended and the phone will start dying, until you hang up. I just bought a new Slider Remix, the salesman told me that it would charge while in use, but guess what, it won't! I believe this is by design to prevent people from using those unlimmited minutes. Truth is, many of these phones do in fact limit your minutes through crappy battery life, and charging circuits that are disabled while the phone is in use. My phones are constantly going dead! (I did own a Motorola model a while back that did NOT have this problem, but the charging jack broke!)

2nd Quality Phones

Posted on: February 5th, 2007 by K Hendrickson

The good: Unlimited calling, text messaging. The bad: Does not let all your text messages go through, Cricket sells stripped down - second quality phones.Summary: Text messaging: Though Cricket touts unlimited text messaging, they do not let all go through and you will get this reject message - "Cricket is not participating in this event at this time." What? Thought it was UNLIMITED text messaging, and they're censoring?Phones: I cannot express enough the poor quality of their phones! I have now been through 4 phones in the last 2 years. Right now I have a Kyocera Slider Remix that the ear speaker went out of. I called the repair shop and was told that Cricket has stopped carrying these phones because there's an inherent problem with the main board, so a speaker or cable replacement won't fix it. I am stuck using speakerphone, which cuts out about every other word. Cricket subscribers pay premium price for these crappy phones. Local Service: Boise store personnel absolutely stinks. One woman that's been there for the last couple years is arrogant and rude. There is a constant air of unprofessionalism and the wait is horrendous. Why? Because there are so many phone problems. Reception: Nampa reception is spotty, even 2 miles off the freeway at Garrity.Customer Value: There are absolutely no rewards for continuing to be a Cricket customer. You'd think they would discount phone prices considerably for customer loyalty, especially since other companies are giving these same phones away for free. The only thing that saves this company is their "unlimited calling". I hope another company breaks into their market soon... I will gladly switch.Summary: If you are one that can manage your minutes, you will be much better off going with another carrier and being locked into a 2 year agreement. You will have a free phone, better customer service and be able to get a new phone each year.

New customers: Good Loyal customers: Who cares!

Posted on: January 30th, 2007 by Tracy Fricker

The good: Affordable serviceThe bad: Rude to non-existent customer serviceSummary: I have been a loyal and good customer of Cricket for many years. Their service is affordable, but beware of mailing payments! It takes approx. 10 days to credit your account with your payment, so mail chacks early! Also, be aware that new phones are very expensive and they do not offer rebates or incentives to current customers.

Cricket seems to be a good deal

Posted on: December 14th, 2006 by Vickie M.

The good: I bought my phone and paid $69.99 which includes the first month of service at no charge. They have a $50 instant rebate right now. I ordered the $40 per month plan which includes unlimited local and long distance calls as long as I am within my area. The bad: The only con I see is if you travel a lot and need to use your cell phone while you travel. You can get the $50 per month plan with New service in Any Cricket market which is small but they are expanding so this may not be a problem for much longer.Summary: If you travel you can get All services in any Cricket market for $50 per month so anyone that has Cricket now and travels should be able to upgrade to this New Feature but I would check and make sure the service is in the areas you travel into. The town I live in just got Cricket service last week so they are expanding their service areas. The $40 plan does Not include voice mail, caller id or waiting etc. but I would not use those options anyway. The phone works great so far around town in buildings etc. I really like no contract, no activation fee and unlimited minutes. Since we do not travel much this is perfect for us.

Works for me

Posted on: December 1st, 2006 by Valencia J.

The good: Unlimited calls in and out, service is relaible, unlimited texting and minutes too.The bad: Many phones are over priced and defected from what I've seen and a few bills were inaccurate.Summary: I have been a cricket customer sine July of 2006. I think the service is great and the deals they offer are great too. Only issue they have are their phones can be a little pricey and from what I've seen the phones are slighty defected or something. Like they don't respond very quickly like other phones unless you buy a slider remix or somethin more expensive. At times the phones cut off all by themselves or the screens freeze up. Their cusotmer service is pretty good too. They don't waste time and you're not sitting on the phone waiting for an operater for long periods of time either.I would recommend this service to anyone who is having minute plan problems with their current service.

Unbeatable

Posted on: October 28th, 2006 by Steven Greenwalt

The good: Calling minutes unlimitedThe bad: not many bells and whistles available (limited web, limited pix msg) rural (mountain) service is limitedSummary: I am on my 10th or 11th phone I use them alot I bought the last one for $40 off ebay. I have three phones/numbers I/we spend over 3 hours a month calling out of the country and at least 7-8 hours long distance all included in my three plans my bill is is never more than $150. cell service is great in colorado metro areas. I had Verizon and Tmoble before Cricket kills them with both T-moble and Verizon I was afraid to open the bill I had a couple over $700. and other than rural area coverage the cell sevice is as good with Cricket With Cricket I don't even see the bill it just comes out of my account no mess no fuss and never more than $150.

The good: Unlimited service for one priceThe bad: Poor signal and reception coverage in my areaSummary: I like the service for the price and it is gret for my teenage daughter, but when an important call comes in and I take two steps in the wrong direction the call is easily lost.

Great as long as you don't travel

Posted on: October 4th, 2006 by Jamal Huwel

The good: Good Coverage, Unlimited minutesThe bad: Only works in Coverage AreaSummary: I got a Cricket RAZR phone for my wife by ordering on Cricket's web site. Phone arrived in a week and works great. Since she never leaves our local calling area, this phone is perfect. Coverage is good and she can talk as much as she wants and we are billed the same every month ($54 total including taxes). I got her unlimited long distance (48 states), call waiting, and caller ID. Not having a service contract or going through a phone bill to check minutes is great, especially for my wife who talks all the time. Coverage area here is good, covers Houston, Austin and San Antonio, but not the highways between the cities. Since I have a Cingular phone through my work, we just use that one if we go out of town. Customer service was very helpful in changing her phone number.
