Phones are junk

Posted on: December 19th, 2007 by Donna M

The good: Great for teenagers who want to text all the time. No call limitThe bad: Poor quality phonesSummary: Cricket gets you by your having to prepay. If (WHEN) the phone quits on you, you've lost your monthly payment, unless you want to buy yet ANOTHER phone. All 4 of our kids have had Cricket phones, but the phones don't last. We only use them because of the unlimited calling. Our youngest child will be 18 in less than a year, and I'll never buy another Cricket phone or use their service. My husband and I both use Cingular (now AT&T). We've both had the same phone for several years. Our kids' phones didn't last a year, and it wasn't because they weren't careful with them.

Real good service

Posted on: October 31st, 2007 by Kevin Criswell

The good: Service is great, call quality is very good unlimited everything The bad: Phones prepackaged for cricket are terrible qualitySummary: Cricket has turned out to be a great company after the rough spots their caller service is much better and call quality is way up. The phones you buy in the cricket stores are terible though, they are toned-down versions feel cheap and dont work well most of the time. There is a light at the end of that tunnel though, I buy Verison phones that I like then have them ported over to work on the cricket network. Since verizon orders high quality phones it takes out the only problem I have had yet with cricket produts It is worth your time to check it out if your in a service area. Also if you live in the nashville network area check out their Aircards for you laptop I'm using mine now to write this review speeds are comparable to DSL and setup is super simple worth checking it out.

You can NOT beat CRICKET for value & hassle free billing.

Posted on: October 9th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: Price, unlimited everything, and you don't have to worry about whether it's a weekend or after 7pm. I will never, ever, count minutes or messages. The bad: Doesn't cover a lot of area, yet. Not a big selection of phones yet either. Also, don't expect to speak to a person for at leat 10 minutes from the time you pick up a phone when calling for support.Summary: But, you can have just about any phone you want flashed over to work with Cricket and they are expanding their calling area every month. So if you don't have it now you may real soon.Overall, I'm never shocked by a phone bill because it's always $52. a month (including tax).

Cricket is a Huge, Huge Hassle!

Posted on: September 18th, 2007 by Nick Littlejohn

The good: Cheap Unlimited service (if you can ever get it)The bad: Horrible customer service, depressing stores with hour long lines, incompetent employees, rate plans increase in priceSummary: I would really like to be able to say something good for Cricket. Unlimited minutes would be revolutionary. Unfortunately, it's not here yet. Cricket is one of the most mismanaged companies I have ever seen. From never being able to reach corporate stores directly to having to dial individual departments, wrong numbers, incredibly long lines, poor customer service...Cricket starts to make you feel like you live in a communist country. I wish the best for Cricket, but they have their work cut out. The only good news is that I've heard the phone signal is fine as long as you never have to deal with them again.

Not so Bad

Posted on: August 5th, 2007 by Dana Herring

The good: Good Coverage and text The bad: Limited Range with-out roaming, comprable services are getting cheaper with contract Phone Companies.Summary: My wife and I have had Cricket for several years and while I have a Basic phone it is still is working fine. While not great they will give a discount on a new phone. I went into check the other day and even though I did not do it then the put on my account to discount me $75.00 towards the purchase of a new phone. The local Customer care was very helpfull and pleasant to deal with.

Like the phone, and the voice service, others are iffy...

Posted on: April 11th, 2007 by Sarah Jones

The good: Unlimited minutes, predictable bill, coverage in all markets, available pre-paid roaming. The bad: Limited web, unpredictable texts. Roaming coverage is not solid.Summary: I bought my first cricket phone in 2002. It was a Nokia and it was wonderful. Nothing special to it, but it survived everything and the service was great. Plus, it was free! I decided to upgrade to a Motorola a year and a half later. The charging system went, and despite the fact that I had insurance, my phone wasn't covered. I had to buy a new phone (Kyocera Energi) and I didn't even get a discount. I'd been with them for 3 years! I switched to Sprint because I moved away from a Cricket service area, and hated it, and since I've moved back I just got back with Cricket. I'm disappointed to find that they no longer have considerable phone discounts, unless you buy online. You really get what you pay for with the cheaper phones, and the more expensive ones lack some of the things that come with them if you went with another provider. (ie. Moto SLVR does not include data cable or memory card). The phone works well though, and I'll be purchasing the cable and card shortly. The service in my area is very good, except for about 3 spots in my house. I learned a while ago to avoid them. The roaming coverage works, but not as well as I had thought it would. I went to Charleston, WV this weekend and didn't have all bars at all. Text messages will say they haven't been sent when they have, causing the recipient to recieve multiples of them. I was under the impression that the Mobile Web service would allow access to the internet. While it does allow me to check my Yahoo mail, it does not access ANY url, only the ones pre programmed. So far, the employees at my local cricket store have been very helpful. The ones at the local mall though are an entirely different story. I was standing behind a couple for nearly 15 minutes before the other sales person even took notice of me. They didn't get the sale. All in all, its a good service. I like it. I came back to it even. The phones are good from about the mid range up. I would only purchase the roaming if I thought I was really going to need it, otherwise, use a pay phone or something. Its not worth it.Thanks for reading :)
