Google today announced a new feature to help alert you more quickly when your account security is compromised.
When Google detects that there's been a serious security issue with your Google Account, it'll deploy a new critical alert within the Google app you're using. This means it doesn't matter if you're in the main Google app, the Gmail app, or any other Google app, you'll still see a red alert dot on your account picture.
This new critical security alert is resistant to spoofing and will help you address the issue with your Google Account.
The new alerts will launch on iOS first and will begin rolling out on a limited basis over the coming weeks, Google told The Verge. Google has a lot of apps that serve different purposes and many of them are probably apps that users check on a regular basis, so if you're a regular user of a Google service then you'll probably see these new alerts pretty quickly if there's an issue with your account.
Google also announced a new Guest Mode for Google Assistant today. Guest Mode can be turned on with one voice command and, when activated, none of your Assistant interactions will be saved.
Additionally, Google is making it easier to check on your account security. Starting today, you can ask something like "Is my Google Account secure?" and you'll be shown your personal security and privacy settings.
Soon you'll also be able to directly edit your Location History in your Timeline by adding or editing places you've been to more easily control your privacy.
