New videos have surfaced that show Google is prepping an updated interface for its Nest Hub Max smart display, and it includes a dark mode and the sticky notes feature that Google announced earlier this year.

This updated UI is shown running on a Nest Hub Max, and it includes tweaks like a tabs that'll let you jump to smart home controls, media, and communications like video calls (via Android Police). Tapping on a tab will show you different cards that you can take action on with a tap.

There's also a new dark theme that'll darken the whole UI and make it a little easier on your eyes at night. The background appears to be a dark gray while the different cards that you can tap on are a lighter shade of gray.

You can activate this dark theme by telling the Google Assistant "Turn on dark theme". There's also a manual toggle that'll let you choose between light, dark, and automatic options, with the automatic one presumably changing the theme to light when the sun rises and dark when the sun sets.

Another video shows that this updated UI also includes sticky notes, a feature that Google announced way back in January but hasn't actually launched yet. With it, you can place a sticky note that says whatever you want on your home screen so you remember to perform whatever task you need to perform.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this updated Nest Hub UI is rolling out widely yet. The owner of this particular Nest Hub Max is on software version 32.24.0, but that's not available to many folks yet and there doesn't appear to be any way to manually enable this new UI.

This does look like a great update to Google's smart display UI. It's kind of surprising that it's taken this long for Google to bring a dark mode to its Nest Hub Max screens, especially because those larger displays and bright white interfaces could be a bit blinding at night. Hopefully this new-look UI begins rolling out to the public soon so we can all try out the tabbed UI and dark mode features.
