ZTE will officially announce the first smartphone with an under-display camera on September 1, but before then, a company executive has given us a preview of the device.

The ZTE Axon 20 5G has been shown off by on Chinese social network site Weibo by ZTE president of mobile devices Ni Fei (via Tweakers). Two separate images show the screen of the Axon 20 5G, including one where the display is powered on, and there's no notch or hole-punch to be found.

We can also see a quad camera setup on the back of the Axon 20 5G. The camera bump is labeled "64 Megapixel" and "Optical W/M 1.8-2.4/10-25", which confirms the rumors that ZTE Axon 20 5G will have a 64MP main rear camera. The other three rear cams are said to be 8MP, 2MP, and 2MP.

Other rumored specs of the ZTE Axon 20 5G include a 6.92-inch 2460x1080 OLED screen, up to 12GB of RAM, and a 4120mAh battery. The selfie camera that's under the display is expected to be a 32MP snapper.

While we've seen some prototype under-display cameras on smartphones in the past, the ZTE Axon 20 5G will be the first mass-produced device to have that feature. Obviously not having a notch or hole-punch taking away screen space is pretty appealing, and so we're looking forward to getting our hands on the Axon 20 5G and seeing exactly how well a selfie camera that's placed beneath a screen works.
