On Android, developers can easily roll out beta programs for their apps for testing. We’ve seen several high-profile apps gain beta versions, like Instagram and Google’s own Search app, and now another well-known app is gaining a beta version.
Google is now offering a beta version of its Google Maps app for Android. To get it, you can enroll in the testing program right here, and then you should receive an update on your Android device with an update to the beta version.
The beta version of Google Maps is version 9.27, up from the 9.26.1 update that recently rolled out to everyone. Also of note is that this v9.27 beta Maps app is behind the Maps v9.30 that’s included in the Android N Developer Preview, so if you’re testing N, you’re already ahead of this beta test. As for what’s included in the v9.27 beta, that’s still a mystery because the app was just released.
Being able to beta test apps is exciting because you have the opportunity to try out new features before the general public. It’s cool to see major companies beta testing their Android apps, and that includes Google and its core apps.
