As expected, Samsung today took the wraps off of its two newest wearable devices, the Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX.
The Gear Fit 2 is an activity tracker with several upgrades over its predecessor. For example, the Gear Fit 2 offers a 1.5-inch 216x432 curved Super AMOLED display, while the original Gear Fit’s screen is a 1.84-inch 128x432 screen. The Gear Fit 2 also offers more RAM and storage, with 512MB and 4GB, respectively.
Perhaps the biggest upgrade of the Gear Fit 2 is its embedded GPS, which will help you better track your activities.
Samsung also touts that the Gear Fit 2 offers Auto Activity Tracking, which means that you don’t have to manually activate the tracking when you start running, walking, cycling, or rowing. Other features included with the Gear Fit 2 are a standalone music player and the ability to transfer fitness data between Samsung’s S Health app and other select apps.
The Gear Fit 2 runs Samsung’s Tizen OS and is compatible with Android smartphones that are running Android 4.4 and up and have 1.5GB of RAM. It’ll be available in blue, magenta, and black color options starting June 10 at a price of $179.
The other new device announced by Samsung today is the Gear IconX. These earbuds are totally wireless, meaning that unlike most other Bluetooth wireless earbuds, there’s no wire connecting the two ‘buds.
In addition to being totally wireless, the Gear IconX can track your fitness, including your heart rate, distance, speed, duration, and calories burned. It can also give you motivation using its Voice Guide feature. Once you’re done working out, you can transfer your fitness data to your smartphone using S Health. Gear IconX can also use Bluetooth to transfer real-time heart rate data to select third-party apps.
Gear IconX includes 4GB of built-in data for storing your workout music. And when you need to charge your wireless ‘buds, you just pop them into their carrying case that can hold up to two additional charges at a time.
The Gear IconX wireless earbuds will be available for $199 starting in Q3 2016, and they’ll be available in blue, white, and black color options. Like the Gear Fit 2, the Gear IconX is compatible with Android phones running Android 4.4 or higher with 1.5GB of RAM or more.
