Samsung launched its fitness-focused Gear Fit in 2014, but 2015 came and went without a successor. The Gear Fit isn’t dead, though, as a new leak has revealed that a Gear Fit 2 is indeed coming.
Images shared by VentureBeat claim to show the Samsung Gear Fit 2, which looks similar to the original Gear Fit in that it’s got a thinner, more rectangular screen that traditional smartwatches. The curved screen is said to be a 1.84-inch Super AMOLED panel, which is the same size as the screen found on the original Gear Fit.
While the Gear Fit 2’s screen may be the same size as the Gear Fit’s there are said to be some differences between the two. The Gear Fit 2 is reportedly more curved and ergonomic, which should make it a more comfortable fitness companion, and Samsung is also expected to include a dedicated GPS. That’ll be huge for folks that use the Gear Fit 2 for activities like walking, running, and biking.
In addition to the Gear Fit 2, Samsung is reportedly working on a new Gear family member known as the Gear IconX. The Gear IconX is said to be totally wireless earbuds that you control using touch. The buds are dust and water resistant, and in addition to playing music with their 4GB of storage, the Gear IconX earbuds can reportedly also function as a fitness tracker.
There are no details on when the Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX might launch or how much they’ll cost when they do, but for reference, the original Gear Fit was $199 at launch. Both the new Gear devices look interesting, with the Gear Fit 2 offering nice upgrades over the original for fitness-focused users, and the Gear IconX are alluring because they’re wireless earbuds without any cable connecting them and dangling on the back of your neck. Now we just have to wait for them to be released so that we can find out if they sound any good.
