UPDATE: Motorola has clarified that the Moto G Turbo Edition's 5-inch display has a resolution of 1280x720, not 1920x1080 like this post originally stated.
ORIGINAL: Earlier this year, Motorola officially took the wraps off of the Moto G (3rd Gen.), the latest in its popular line of affordable Android smartphones. Fast-forward a few months and Motorola’s got another new Moto G that makes a couple small but notable improvements on the 3rd Gen. version.
The Moto G Turbo Edition has been introduced by Motorola in Mexico. The Turbo Edition looks similar to the Moto G (3rd Gen.), and many of its specs are the same, too. There are a couple of changes worth noting, though, the first of which is the display. While the Moto G Turbo Edition has the same size display as the Moto G (3rd Gen.), which is 5 inches, the Moto G Turbo Edition’s screen resolution has been upped to 1920x1080 from 1280x720 on the Moto G (3rd Gen.)
Another change is found inside the Moto G Turbo Edition’s body. While the Moto G (3rd Gen.) is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, the Moto G Turbo Edition is packing an octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset.
The remainder of the Moto G Turbo Edition’s spec list includes 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot for adding more storage, dual SIM slots, IP67 certification for resistance to dust and water, and Android 5.1.1. The Moto G Turbo Edition also includes the same 2470mAh battery as the Moto G (3rd Gen.), even though it’s got a beefier display resolution and processor, but the good news is that the Turbo Edition also supports TurboPower fast charging so that you can juice it up quickly.
The Moto G Turbo Edition is expected to launch in Mexico on November 13 at a price that’s equal to $283 USD. To compare, Motorola is asking $219.99 for the Moto G (3rd Gen.) with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The Moto G Turbo Edition looks like a solid upgrade over the Moto G (3rd Gen.), offering a newer processor and higher-res display at a price that’s not much higher considering the improvements. Unfortunately, it’s unclear when or if the Moto G Turbo Edition will ever be released outside of Mexico
