Late October just got a bit busier, because Verizon and Motorola just announced an event for October 27 at 11:00 am ET. As you might’ve guessed from the hosts, this’ll be a DROID event, with the tagline saying, “Everything you expect from a phone will change.” As for what’ll be announced at the show, the invitation mentions that we’ll get to meet “the newest DROIDs,” as in more than one device.
We’ve heard rumors that Motorola and Verizon are prepping a DROID Turbo 2 and a DROID Maxx 2. The former is rumored to offer a 5.43-inch 2560x1440 display and Snapdragon 810, while the latter will reportedly be a US version of the Moto X Play.
Motorola and Verizon have been tag-teaming on new DROID phones for years now, and so it’s not really a surprise to see more coming in late 2015. What’s interesting is that we’re getting two phones again after Verizon and Moto switch to a single phone strategy in 2014 with the DROID Turbo. With the Moto X Play’s more mid-range spec list, the DROID Maxx 2 could end up being the more affordable of the two 2015 DROIDs, with the DROID Turbo 2 being the more high-end offering.
