UPDATE: Motorola has posted the changelog for the DROID Turbo’s Android 5.1 update, and as you’d expect going from 4.4.4 to 5.1, there are lots of goodies. Included is a material design UI refresh, a revamped Recent Apps feature, a Chop Twice for Flashlight gesture, and more. The full changelog is here.
Motorola’s David Schuster has also confirmed that the update soak test is underway and if it goes smoothly, a larger rollout will happen later this week.
Remember that DROID Turbo soak test that started the other day that I thought may have been Android 5.1? Looks like it was.
Motorola just sent out a tweet that reads “Thanks for your patience. We hope you’re as excited as we are about #Lollipop - coming to a #DROIDTurbo near you.” There’s no other information regarding the update, but the tweet suggests that the Turbo’s Android 5.1 update is finally near.
DROID Turbo owners have been (im)patiently waiting for Lollipop for a while now. The phone launched with Android 4.4.4 KitKat in October 2014, and then in March 2015 Moto revealed that it would be skipping Android 5.0 for the Turbo and going straight to 5.1, meaning a longer wait for Lollipop. It looks like that wait is finally coming to an end, though, which ought to make the upcoming holiday weekend even sweeter for DROID Turbo owners.
