Heads up, Twitter users, because the microblogging service is making a change that you’re going to want to be aware of.
Starting today, Twitter will start autoplaying native videos, Vines, and GIFs that show up in your timeline. Autoplaying is now live in both the web version of Twitter as well as the iOS app, and Twitter says that it’s going to go live in its Android app “soon.” The good news is that you can change how it works.
In the Twitter for iOS app, you can choose to allow videos to autoplay over both mobile and Wi-Fi, only over Wi-Fi, or to never autoplay videos. To access this setting, just click on the “Me” tab in the lower right corner of your screen, tap the Settings icon near your profile and cover photos, go into Settings, and then select “Video autoplay.”
Autoplay videos can make it easier for you to view content in your Twitter timeline, but there may be some instances in which you don’t want videos to automatically start playing when you scroll by them, like if you’ve got a limited data plan. Thankfully, Twitter has had the foresight to allow you to make videos autoplay only over Wi-Fi or not at all, so you can tweak the setting to fit your usage.
