After launching on iPad in early 2014 and then Android tablets later that year, Blizzard’s popular card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is now making the jump to the smaller screen.
Hearthstone is being updated today to support both the iPhone and Android smartphones. On the phone, the game’s user interface has been shrunken down from the tablet version, but it looks to be functionally the same game that tablet users have been enjoying since 2014. If you’re an existing Hearthstone player, you’ll be glad to know that your cards are still tied to your Battle.net account, so you can keep your collection when switching to the phone.
In order to install Hearthstone on your iPhone, you’re going to need either an iPhone 4s or iPod touch (5th Generation). Google Play hasn’t yet updated with the new version of Hearthstone for Android phones, so it’s not yet clear what requirements Android users will need to meet to run the game on their handsets.
Once you get Hearthstone up and running on your phone, Blizzard will give you a free classic pack of cards when you play a game. So even if you don’t plan on playing Hearthstone on your phone full-time, it may be worth loading the game up on your handset and finishing going through one match.
Hearthstone is one of the most popular mobile games around, and while it may have taken a bit longer to get to phones than some folks may have liked, Blizzard probably took its time to make sure that the UI would be usable on the smaller phone screens. Now you existing Hearthstone players have another screen to play the game on, and folks that may have skipped the game in the past because they don’t have a tablet can now check it out for the first time.
