It’s time once again to check in on Google’s Android version distribution.

Google today posted the latest Android platform distribution stats, which show us which versions of Android devices were running when they accessed Google Play during the 7-day period that ended on January 5. Once again, Android 5.0 Lollipop is nowhere to be found.

Android 4.4 KitKat finished the survey period with a 39.1 percent share of all Android devices, a sizable increase from the 33.9 percent share that it had last month. The other versions of Android weren’t quite as lucky, with Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean dropping from 48.7 percent to 46 percent and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich falling from 7.8 percent to 6.7 percent.

Moving on to pre-Android 4.0 versions, we can see that Android 2.3 Gingerbread finished January with a 7.8 percent market share, which is down from the 9.8 percent share that it had in December. Android 2.2 Froyo dropped from 0.5 percent in December to 0.4 percent in January.

It’s interesting to see that Android 5.0 still isn’t live in Google’s numbers, because it hasn’t really rolled out to many consumer devices outside of the Nexus and GPe line, it’s market share may not be terribly large. Meanwhile, Android 4.4 KitKat continues to grow, likely thanks to some holiday sales of devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3.
