T-Mobile isn’t going to announce its full Q4 2014 earnings until February, but apparently it was so excited by the preliminary results that it just had to share some of the information with us today.
T-Mobile says that it pulled in 2.1 million new customers in Q4 2014, a figure that includes 1.3 million branded postpaid additions (1 million of which were phones) and 266,000 branded prepaid adds. In all, T-Mobile added 8.3 million new customers in 2014, which it says is an 89 percent increase from 2013.
Besides the subscriber additions, T-Mobile had itself a pretty big 2014. We saw several new Un-carrier initiatives launch, including Un-carrier 4.0 and its offer to pay switcher ETFs, Un-carrier 6.0 that brought Music Freedom, and Un-carrier 8.0 Data Stash and its rollover data (which technically launched in 2015). T-Mobile CEO John Legere has predicted that his magenta carrier will have a strong 2015 as well, saying that if T-Mo doesn’t pass Sprint in total subscribers by the end of 2014, it’ll happen in 2015
