To date, we haven’t heard many spec or feature leaks for the new iPad models that Apple is expected to unveil Thursday. Thankfully for those hungry for information on Apple’s new hardware, that drought ends today.
A new image shared by Apple.club.tw claims to show some internal parts from the iPad Air 2. Upon examining the hardware in the photo, we can see that there’s an “A8X” processor, which would likely be an upgraded version of the Apple A8 chip that’s found in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The logic board also appears to include 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM.
The rumor mill has suggested that Apple may be planning to include a new split-screen multitasking feature with its new iPad models. Such a feature would likely benefit from the added horsepower that an A8X chip and 2GB of RAM would provide, as would the higher-res display that may come with a new iPad Air. The suggestion that Apple may continue to offer 16GB of storage with its low-end iPad is definitely a bummer, but it also wouldn’t be a surprise that it did that with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Apple is holding an event on Thursday, October 16, at which it’s expected to unveil new iPad models, a Retina iMac and the release of OS X Yosemite. Based on what we’ve heard from the rumor mill so far, are you interested in Apple’s new iPad hardware?
