Yesterday Apple officially entered the wearables arena with the debut of the Apple Watch. The company gave us a pretty extensive rundown of the Apple Watch, its features and its inductive charging functionality. One detail that it didn’t drop, though, was the Apple Watch’s battery life.
Sources speaking to Re/code claim to have the details on just how long the Apple Watch will last on a single charge. The wearable is expected to last “about a day” on one charge, but it’s said that Apple isn’t happy about that and that it’s working on improving that ahead of the Watch’s early 2015 release.
Apple declined to comment on the rumor. However, it did say that it expects users to charge their Apple Watches every day because of the device’s inductive charging system and the new technology that Apple anticipates will lead wearers to use Apple Watch “throughout the day.”
Most existing smartwatches — save for the Pebble and its low-res e-paper display — get around a day of battery life, so it’s not a huge surprise to hear that the Apple Watch gets about the same. After all, there’s only so much battery that can be packed into a small, wrist-worn device, and these smartwatch products are still in their early days. Apple sounds determined to improve the Apple Watch’s battery life, though, and it’ll be interesting to see if it can boost it before the Apple Watch’s launch next year.
Are you ok with charging your smartwatch every night or do you want longer battery life out of your wearable?
