Well, it looks like we know why T-Mobile has been busy pushing Wi-Fi Calling improvements to its flagship smartphones lately.
T-Mobile today announced that its Un-carrier 7.0 move will be “Wi-Fi Un-leashed.” As part of the effort, T-Mobile will include support for Wi-Fi Calling on all of the smartphones that it launches going forward. Any customers that don’t already have a Wi-Fi Calling-enabled handset will be able to use T-Mobile JUMP! to upgrade to a phone that supports Wi-Fi Calling.
Additionally, T-Mobile plans to begin offering a new device called the Personal CellSpot. The Wi-Fi router will launch on September 17 and will be free save for a $25 deposit. T-Mobile says that its Personal CellSpot includes “unique patent-pending technology” that puts priority on your phone calls to ensure voice quality.
The final part of Wi-Fi Un-leashed includes a partnership with Gogo. T-Mobile is teaming up with Gogo to allow its customers to send unlimited text and picture messages and also check visual voicemail on any US flight with Gogo Wi-Fi. This offer will kick off on September 17.
