Sony recently confirmed that the Xperia Z2 would be coming to this U.S. this summer, but the company would only say that it plans to sell the Z2 through its own online shop, saying that its discussions with carriers were ongoing. Now it looks like we can confirm that at least one U.S. carrier has signed on to offer the newest Xperia smartphone.
Sony today posted an image to its official Google+ account that clearly shows a Verizon-branded Xperia Z2. The device looks like the regular Z2 that we spent some hands-on time with earlier this year, with the only noticeable changes being that the Sony logo has moved to the bottom of the device and a Verizon logo has been put in its place up top.
It’s been quite a while since we last saw a Sony device launch on Verizon. With its 5.2-inch 1080p display, 20.7-megapixel rear camera and 2.3GHz quad-core processor, the Xperia Z2 looks like a nice way to end that drought. There’s no word yet on when the Verizon Xperia Z2 will launch or how much it’ll cost when it does, but at least now Big Red’s customers know that they’ll soon have another Android flagship available to them.
UPDATE: Sony has reached out to us with an official statement regarding this image:

For our U.S. customers eager to find out more information about the availability of Xperia Z2, we are excited to share that the device will be coming to the U.S. unlocked this summer.”
