Every couple of years or so, a very special day comes around for a lot of people. Do you know what that day is? I bet you do, and I'm willing to bet you yourself have likely had this miraculous day fall upon you at least once in the last three years or so. If you guessed "Upgrade Day", give yourself a pat on the back, because you've just earned three points. Upgrade day is one of my favorite biennial events, and so when it happens it's often smarter to really take what phone you want to be stuck with for the next two years into heavy consideration before just picking out a phone that you think will be good. But even then, sometimes you'll find that there just isn't a phone out on the market at the time of your upgrade that you could see yourself sticking with for two years.

And sometimes you just don't find one at all. Flagship after flagship comes out, and you find yourself picking out all of the things you don't like with each one that comes out. Either that means that the phones coming out just don't suit your style, or maybe the phone that you have just fit you so perfectly that it would be a shame to give it up if it's still working well enough. It can be hard to part with a really great phone, and sometimes it feels better if you just don't.

There have been very few times where I've skipped upgrade day. I debated skipping my upgrade day this year, because I wasn't exactly convinced that I would stick with the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One for the next two years - but I decided that it would be best if I just moved on anyway. I loved my 4S, but it was definitely beginning to show its age, not to mention had a couple of unfortunate run-ins with the elements that made me fear for its longevity at that point. Nonetheless, I decided that it was time to give Android another shot after ending on not-so-great terms when I switched from my EVO 3D to the iPhone; I really did not like my EVO 3D. Android seemed extremely clunky compared to iOS, and in some ways it still is, but it has definitely improved and in many ways and still holds some benefits over iOS when it comes to customization and functionality.

This year was actually pretty great in my opinion when it comes to upgrading. The HTC One is still going strong for me (I've been using it since early July); the Galaxy S4 was alright, although a little too large for my hands, but otherwise a good phone; Motorola's Moto X actually turned out to be a real swanky device once I had the opportunity to toy with a review unit - you'll hate clicking the home button to check the time again after using it; even the iPhone 5S offers some cool features, especially the fingerprint sensor, which a lot of people have been looking forward to. And then of course we have the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which was recently released, and the Nexus 5 (which is presumably what it's called) coming out hopefully this month. This year is packin' when it comes to having a good line-up, but there are definitely some years that do better than others.

For instance, I wasn't really impressed enough with phones last year to try and switch it up. I didn't think too much about the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Note II was too big for my taste; the iPhone 5 was a step up from the iPhone 4S, but if I had really wanted a bigger screen and LTE I would have still been with Android - those things weren't important to me, and there wasn't anything else exactly game changing other than those two things that made me want to get the iPhone. Then there was the Nexus 4, which was a pretty awesome device, but I was also pretty limited by being on a CDMA network, and the Nexus 4 just wasn't enough to get me to switch to another network. Even though I wasn't due for an upgrade last year, if there's a phone I want badly enough, I will find a way.

In other words, I was entirely too picky last year. But it happens.

But that was last year, and this is this year. What I want to know from you, dear readers, is if you decided to skip "Upgrade Day" this year or not?
