Sprint recently surprised quite a few folks when it revealed a Jelly Bean update for its Epic 4G Touch, but it turns out that that's not the only Samsung Galaxy S II variant that's getting bumped up to Android 4.1. As noted by PhoneDog commenter Elena Rico, both the Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile variants of the Galaxy S II are also now able to be updated to Jelly Bean. That's not entirely surprising since both of those Galaxy S II models are similar to Sprint's model, but it's still good to see. Both Samsung's official support site and an Android Central forum user confirm that the update for Boost's Galaxy S II is available through Samsung's Kies computer software. Details are light on the Virgin model's update, but it's likely available through Kies as well.

Meanwhile, as noted by PhoneDog commenter Christian Whitlock, regional carrier Alltel Wireless has announced that its version of the Galaxy S II can now be updated to Jelly Bean as well. This is even more of a major update than it is for Sprint, Boost and Virgin users, though, as it bumps up Alltel's Galaxy S II from Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, skipping Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich entirely. Just as with the other Galaxy S II Jelly Bean updates, Alltel customers will need to download the update to their computer and install it onto their phone using Samsung software. While it's always good to see an Android device receive a major update to a new version of Google's mobile OS, that's especially true when it comes to older hardware like these Galaxy S II variants. It'd be even better if the owners of these devices could get bumped up to Jelly Bean through a simple over the air update, but considering all of the new goodies that these users will be gaining access to with the update, I'm sure that they won't complain too much.

There's one more Galaxy S II update that's now going out to owners of the AT&T model (the I777 variant, not the Skyrocket), but unfortunately for them, this one doesn't include any jelly beans. AT&T recently announced on its Galaxy S II support page that a small maintenance update is now rolling out over the air to its Galaxy S II. The 6.6MB update includes fix for a bug that'd cause the S II to become unresponsive or power down while sitting idle. There's also a security enhancement packed in, which AT&T explains will protect the S II against a malware vulnerability. To grab the update, AT&T Galaxy S II owners must first be running Android 4.0, and then head into Menu > Settings > About device > Software update > Check for updates.
