Facebook's "New Home on Android" event is now less than a week out, and as is usually the case when an event like this one gets announced, a multitude of reports have been popping up in recent days with information on what the 'Book might be planning to show. The most popular rumor is that Facebook will introduce a modified version of Android that features deep integration with Facebook services as well as a feature that will display a user's content from the social network directly on his or her home screen. According to reports from TechCrunch, 9to5Google and @evleaks, this new Facebook-ified Android experience will be known as "Facebook Home."
Obviously we won't know exactly what Zuckerberg and Co.'s plans for its "New Home on Android" are until April 4 rolls around, but the name "Facebook Home" makes sense for the software what these rumors claim that the company is preparing. The main feature of this tweaked flavor of Android sounds like its ability to display a user's Facebook content right on the home screen, which would be their Facebook Home. Plus, there's the fact that Facebook invited us to check out its "New Home" at Thursday's event.
It's been said that Facebook will be showing off its new software on an HTC device and that the two companies are prepping a large ad campaign for the new products. Of course, Facebook could get more users to adopt Home if it makes the software available to other hardware, and rumors claim that that's exactly what it intends to do, with Facebook reportedly planning to offer its modified version of Android to other users and device makers. Some of the finer details of Facebook's plans are still up in the air for now, but the good news is that Facebook's event is getting close, with a start time of 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET on April 4.
