We already knew that there were some folks that aren't totally thrilled with Verizon's planned purchase of spectrum from several cable companies, and now a large group of firms have asked the FCC to pause its 180-day review of Verizon's deal. DirecTV, the Rural Telecommunications Group, Sprint, T-Mobile and several other groups have jointly filed a letter to the FCC, explaining that they're concerned with the amount of redacted information in the documents given to the FCC by Verizon and the cable companies. The aforementioned groups would like all of the information in the docs from Verizon and the cable firms, such as the conditions of the spectrum buys, revealed before the FCC completes its review of the deal.
As I said before, there have already been some groups, T-Mobile included, that have expressed concern over Verizon's attempt to buy up AWS spectrum from various cable companies, so it's not a surprise to hear that several firms have come together to ask the FCC to put the deal on hold until all of the terms are made clear. It's not yet clear exactly what'll happen next, but considering all of the companies involved, I'm sure that we'll be hearing more on the situation soon. Stay tuned!
