Although recent reports have claimed that the Motorola XOOM may have sold up to 100,000 units to date, the slate's $600 on-contract/$800 off-contract may have prevented even more sales from taking place. A new leak has shown that Verizon and Moto may be planning to address that, though, by releasing a 16GB XOOM to sit alongside the regular 32GB model. There's not much more information available on the device, but it does look like the 16GB version will be upgradeable to LTE later on, just like its bigger sibling.
A cheaper 16GB version of the XOOM could do a lot for the device's sales, but it depends on exactly how low Motorola and Big Red can price it. Obviously we don't have any info on that just yet, but it'd be nice to see this new XOOM given a price tag of around $499.99 on-contract and $699.99 sans any kind of commitment. Of course, with a 3G/4G-enabled XOOM coming, you've got to wonder if a 16GB WiFi-only model is coming, too, which could end up going head-to-head with the 16GB iPad 2 at the $499.99 price point. What do you all make of this rumor? Would you be interested in picking up a 16GB XOOM in either a 3G or WiFi-only variety?
