Hot on the heels of spec leaks for the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 10.1, Sammy has made both devices official today at Mobile World Congress. First up is the smaller, of the two, the Galaxy S II. The device features specs that are fitting for a high-end flagship device, including a 4.27-inch 800x480 Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, 2 megapixel front-facing cam, 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity, NFC, and Android 2.3 running beneath Samsung's new TouchWiz 4.0 skin. The Galaxy S II will be launching in Europe and Asia soon, although no word on a U.S. release or price was mentioned.
Next is the Galaxy S II's big brother, the Galaxy Tab 10.1. As you could probably guess from the name, the new Tab features a 10.1-inch display at a resolution of 1280x800. Other specs for the Tab 10.1 include a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2, 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p video capture, 2 megapixel FFC, 21Mbps HSPA+ capabilities, pure Gingerbread, and either 16GB or 32GB capacities. As with the Galaxy S II, the Tab 10.1 will be launching soon in Europe and Asia, but no North American launch details were given. Pricing was described as "competitive."
Both of Samsung's new Galaxy devices look pretty slick, and I'm pretty happy that they decided to bump the Tab up to a 10.1-inch display. It's kind of surprising that Sammy opted to include the Tegra 2 in their new flagship phones rather than their own Orion/Exynos processors, but after seeing how well NVIDIA's CPUs handled the Quadrant benchmark, I'm certainly not going to complain. It's kind of a bummer that there's been no U.S. launch info released, but considering how aggressive Samsung was with releasing the original Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab here, I'm sure we'll be hearing more sooner rather than later. Stay tuned!
