Last week we told you about a bug with the Samsung Fascinate's emergency calling feature that surfaced with the DL09 maintenance update. Several of you reported that the issue was present on your devices, and now Samsung has acknowledged the problem. In a statement sent to us today, the company said that it was aware of the bug and that it's currently investigating exactly what's causing it. In the mean time, Samsung advises you to simply unlock the device to use the dialer like normal. The full statement is below:
"It has come to the attention of Samsung Mobile during the recent DL09 OTA (Over-the-Air) update for the Samsung Fascinate that some users utilizing the Pattern Lock are finding that the Emergency Call shortcut is not automatically launching the dialer. However, unlocking the device will allow the user to make calls as they normally would, including emergency calls. We apologize for the inconvenience and are continuing to evaluate the issue, including if the issue is linked to the update. If you have experienced any issues or have any questions, please contact Samsung Customer Care - www.samsung.com/contactus."
When we first learned of this bug, I was kind of surprised that it slipped past both Samsung and Verizon, especially since it has to do with an important feature of the device. That said, it's pretty easy to avoid if you're a Fascinate owner: disable the pattern lock until Samsung pushes a fix out. When that happens, we'll be sure to let you know.
