Over the past week or so, there have been more leaks surrounding HP/Palm's upcoming tablets than you can shake a stick at. One of the only things missing from all the reports is exactly what these devices will be known when they hit the market, but that may be because even HP doesn't know yet. Both "PalmPad" and "TouchPad" have been kicked around, and now HP has filed for the trademarks for three more names that could apply to a tablet: Touchslate, Touchcanvas, Duopad. Luckily, we can also eliminate one name from the running, as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has denied HP the trademark for the name "PalmPad" because it's too similar to other trademarked names like "Palm," "Palm Pre," and "Palm webOS."
I was always kind of partial to the name PalmPad, which makes this news pretty disappointing. The name Touchpad is pretty close, although it sounds a little generic to me. Out of all of the remaining names, though, I'd have to say that it's my favorite that HP has tried to trademark. At the rate that the company is filing with the USPTO, though, we could see a few more names emerge before the Topaz and perhaps Opal are unveiled on February 9th. Which name(s) do you prefer?
