Remember when Verizon bought Alltel for $28.1 billion? Of course you do. What about when AT&T scooped up a good bit of those stragglers due to Verizon's divestitures as mandated by the FCC? Maybe. Regardless, those old Alltel customers that AT&T did get their paws on are getting offered some pretty sweet deals by Ol' Blue to help them transition to GSM. Some of the free phones included in this deal are the HTC Aria, Palm Pre Plus, Pantech Link, and Samsung Strive. There are also some other deals worth mentioning like the BlackBerry Torch for $99.99. Not bad, but no major deals here to drool over.
One part of this transition that should be noted is that if you are an old Alltel customer being taken in by AT&T and they send you this offer by mail, you have a set time in which you can pick one of their "free phones." If you do not do so within the time specified, they "will select and send one of the FREE phone options to you in order to avoid interruption of your wireless service." There you have it, you have been warned.
WIth that being said, after you are moved over to AT&T, you still have a 30-day period in which you can cancel your service without having to pay an ETF. You can also keep your current Alltel rate plan and features and add additional lines under the current plan.
