While I can't say that this news is surprising, it's definitely worth shedding a single, small tear over.  Apple has updated their iPhone Developer news and information page, revealing that they're ending support for iOS 2.x apps.  They go on to say that any new apps must be built with the iPhone 4 SDK, which includes any app updates that may be released.

This news will only affect people who haven't upgraded to iOS 3, like original iPod Touch owners who didn't feel like paying the iOS 3 $10 upgrade fee.  I'm guessing that the number of people that fall into that category is pretty small, but it's still disappointing for them.  The original iPhone and iPod Touch are the first devices to be completely cut off by Apple as they aren't receiving any iOS 4 love.  Those devices have been out for four years, though, which is pretty impressive in the tech world.
