Remember when we posted Motorola's Android 2.1 update schedule that included plans for the CLIQ and CLIQ XT to get the upgrade in Q2? Well, the end of Q2 is today and, rather than give us some Eclair goodness, Moto has instead delivered some bad news. Posting on the Motorola support forums, Motorola employee Matt has been given the job title "Bearer of Bad News," leaving us this message:
For those asking for an update regarding a software upgrade on CLIQ in the U.S., we've made a decision to take more time on the release to optimize the experience in some key areas. We will continue to work to deliver it as soon as possible and apologize that we have been unable to provide an upgrade to these users in Q2 as planned.
We are working hard to provide an upgrade to Android 2.1 as soon as we can. Our consumers’ experience is our first priority and we will provide an upgrade when we can deliver the best possible user experience.
Definitely disappointing news for CLIQ and CLIQ XT owners, especially since no new solid release information was given. Still, I'm not terribly surprised with the delay since we've heard absolutely nothing about the update since we saw the Moto update plans. At least CLIQ users still have the Android hacking community to bring them updates and new features until Motorola finally decides to finish the Android 2.1 update and push it out to users.
