AT&T is kicking October off with a pair of announcements this morning, one related to a new smartphone and the other a rate plan. First up, AT&T has confirmed that it plans to offer the Sony Xperia TL. The Xperia TL looks to be an AT&T-friendly version of the Xperia T that debuted at IFA 2012 in August, featuring a 4.55-inch 720p display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 13-megapixel camera. Also included in the Xperia TL is NFC support and AT&T 4G LTE connectivity. Expect the Xperia TL to launch with Android 4.0.4 in tow, though AT&T does promise than an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will hit after launch. No launch or pricing details have been disclosed.
Along with the Xperia TL, AT&T today revealed a new GoPhone smartphone rate plan. Arriving on October 7, the Monthly Unlimited Plan with Data includes unlimited talk and text as well as 1GB of data for $65 per month. GoPhone customers with a smartphone will still be able to sign up for the $50 unlimited talk and text offering or the $25 plan with 250 minutes and unlimited texting. AT&T also announced the AT&T Fusion 2, which features a 3.5-inch 480x320 display, 800MHz processor, 3.2-megapixel camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread for $99 sans contract.
When Sony initially announced the Xperia T at IFA 2012, there wasn't much in the way of U.S. availability information on the device, so it's good to see that the company's new high-end Android handset will be hitting the shelves of at least one U.S. carrier. Of course, we don't know precisely when the Xperia TL will be arriving on AT&T, but we do know that it'll be featured in the upcoming James Bond flick Skyfall.
