Remember when Motorola refreshed its Android upgrade schedule last week, and devices like the Atrix 4G and Photon 4G had their Ice Cream Sandwich update status changed to "Further plans coming soon"? Well, those devices have had their status updated again, and the news isn't good. Motorola has revealed that the Atrix 4G, Electrify and Photon 4G will not be updated to Android 4.0, and instead will remain on Android 2.3. In a message posted on the company's official support forums, Motorola says that all three devices will continue to be supported through maintenance updates.
Earlier this year, Motorola said that the Atrix 4G and Photon 4G were scheduled to see ICS in Q3 and Q4, while the Electrify's update was under evaluation. Once those three devices had their status changed to "Further plans coming soon," there was concern that the updates may have been killed outright, and it looks like those worries were valid. This news is definitely a bummer for anyone that owns an Atrix, Photon or Electrify, especially after two of the three were initially expected to receive Ice Cream Sandwich updates. Do any of you own one of these three handsets?
