AT&T coverage in New York City has often been described as "poor" by some users, but the carrier announced today that things should be changing for the better.  In a press release sent out today, AT&T said that they have completed their upgrades to the 3G network in NYC.  The upgrades include an increase to 7.2 Mbps HSPA that should mean a 47 percent increase in voice quality.  Along with the HSPA updates, the carrier also added a layer of 850 MHz coverage to increase reception in buildings.

Many people have been having issues with AT&T's coverage in New York City for a while now, so it's great to see the carrier taking steps to remedy the problems and increase coverage.  Just how much the upgrades have helped will take some time to figure out, but I'm sure that New Yorkers will see some better reception, especially with all of the Wi-Fi hotspots available to NYC like the one in Times Square.  With the release of the iPhone 4, though, all of that new coverage may be gobbled up by users playing with their Retina Display-toting devices.  Are any of you on AT&T in New York City seeing improvements?
