Last month we were surprised to see the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge begin receiving new updates four and a half years after they launched. But now Samsung has released new updates for two former Galaxy flagships that are even older.
Samsung has now released new updates for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, and S6 edge+ (via SamMobile). These new releases began rolling out in South Korea and have now started making their way across Europe and Latin America, too.
The official changelogs don't go into detail about what is included with these updates, and security patch level even remains at September 2018. It's likely that these updates fix some sort of security vulnerability but for now we don't know exactly what's been patched.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 update bumps the phone to version N920SKSS2DTJ2, while the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, and S6 edge+ are being updated to versions G92xSKSS3ETJ1 and G928SKSS3DTJ3, respectively.
The Galaxy Note 5 and S6 phones in 2015 and they were removed from Samsung's official update schedule in 2018, so it's kind of surprising to see them receiving new updates in late 2020. And while there may not be a ton of people carrying these phones anymore, it is good to see Samsung release a new patch for anyone who is still rocking a Note 5 or S6.
