We got our first early look at Samsung's One UI 3 last month when the update entered a closed developer beta, and now the beta is starting to expand to non-developers, too.
Samsung today kicked off its public beta for the One UI 3.0 update (via SamMobile). It's available to Galaxy S20 devices and currently it's only available in South Korea, but soon it'll open up to folks in the US, UK, Poland, Germany, China, and India as well.
In addition to the Galaxy S20 series, it's expected that the beta will be made available to Galaxy Note 20 users as well, and it my also expand to include the Galaxy S10 and Note 10.
One UI 3 is based on Android 11 and it brings some notable changes to Samsung's custom user interface. For example, the volume slider can expand to show sliders for audio sources like Bixby, music, and alarms, and Samsung has added a blur effect to the notification shade behind the alerts themselves.
There's a new "Minimal battery use" mode that'll help you extend your battery life by turning on dark mode and limiting apps, as well as an "Enhanced processing" mode that'll boost your performance. Samsung's Gallery app will let you revert edits in One UI 3, and the Contacts app will help you delete duplicate contacts.
Samsung has also implemented several of Android 11's new features in One UI 3. Those include Bubbles, one-time permissions, media player controls in Quick Settings, and a "Conversations" section in the notification shade.
One UI 3 is still in beta, so Samsung could make changes before it launches to the public. There's no word yet on when the One UI 3 update will be finalized and released.
