Are you a Verizon customer who decided to skip insurance when you bought your current phone? If so, you've now got another shot at it.
Verizon today began open enrollment for device protection, meaning customers who previously declined insurance when they bought their new phone can now add protection if they'd like. Open enrollment will run through December 3, 2020, so you've got some time to choose which insurance option is best for you.
There are a few different device protection options available from Verizon. The base Extended Warranty tier is $5 per device per month and covers post-warranty defects like battery replacement for select phones.
Wireless Phone Protection is the next step up. It's $6.85 per month for tier 1 smartphones and smartwatches or $3.10 per month for tier 2 smartphones, basic phones, and tablets. It includes 3 insurance claims in 12 months and covers unlimited cracked screen repair for select phones; as soon as next day replacement time; and covers loss, theft, and damage.
Next is Total Equipment Coverage, priced at $11 per month for tier 2 smartphones and watches or $7 for tier 2 phones and tablets. It includes unlimited cracked screen repair for select phones; covers loss, theft, and damage; and coverage for post-warranty defects like battery replacement.
The Total Mobile Protection plan is $15 per month for tier 1 smartphones and smartwatches or $12 per month for tier 2 smartphones and tablets. It includes all the features of Total Equipment Coverage but adds in Verizon Tech Coach, which offers personalized tech support for help transferring data to a new phone, optimizing your phone's performance, and connecting to wireless networks.
Finally, the Verizon Protect service is $17 per month for tier 1 smartphones and watches or $14 per month for tier 2 phones and tablets. It includes everything from Total Mobile Protection and adds in Digital Secure, which offers antivirus and anti-malware protection, VPN, identity theft protection, and more. It also includes Call Filter to identify and block spam calls.
